Self-Drive Safari Through Uganda

I and my wife took a very interesting self-drive holiday in Uganda and our route was planned earlier in July and then we traveled in November 2022. When we reached 4×4 Car Hire Uganda, the reservation agent (Mike) was so responsive on time.

We booked land cruiser with rooftop tent and all camping gears and fridge such that we can cool our drinks and drinks while on our trip. Competitively with our long-term rental we secured good price from this car rental agency.

When you arrange your self-drive trip with 4×4 Car Hire Uganda you definitely be helped on tailoring your suitable route to take and when we asked recommended route to take, Mike advised two options and one was starting from the eastern and then option with the western region.

  1. Where to go – places to visit

Thereafter, preparing our car rental service and the route to take we definitely made a simple deposit for the car and then waited for the exact time of our travel. We started our route with the visit to Jinja, Sipi Falls, Moroto, Kotido, Kidepo, Murchison, Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary, Kibale, Semliki, Queen, Bwindi, Lake Bunyonyi and then to Lake Mburo and end with Entebbe.

2. What to do – activities to experience

While on this eastern route we enjoyed variety of activities from water rafting, bungee jumping, river bugging and boat cruise along the River Nile in Jinja. We had to proceed to Sipi Falls experience and the community-based initiative in the area visiting the local communities offering the coffee tour.

The leisurely stay we had in Moroto, Kotido was so amazing enjoying the lifestyle of the Karamojong. We arranged with the Kara-tunga campsite the interesting night stay in the villages and with our rooftop tent jeep we rained it simply in the middle of the community and enjoyed their cultural dance performance and at night the camp fire roasting the goat was so nice.

Self-driving towards the Kidepo Valley National Park we took interesting en-route visit to the Nakapelimuro village and it is among the biggest local society in East Africa. After the visit direct to the Kidepo and we suitably camped with our jeep at the parking lot of the Kidepo Savannah Lodge and all the meals we enjoyed with their restaurant.

For the period we spent into this park we managed to take various game drives that is morning and evening and visiting some of the nearby local communities.

There so many experiences that we enjoyed in other game parks and these include the chimps trek, nature walks, game drives and boat ride and then lastly but the least the unforgettable gorilla trekking experience in Bwindi Forest National Park.

3. Where to stay – lodges and campsites

With the rooftop tent jeep, you only need to find a very well-designed campsite or garden to set up your rooftop tent and for our case we looked for such campsites like the Nile River Explorer Camp in Jinja, Moses Camp in Sipi, Kara-tunga Campsite in Moroto, Kidepo Savannah Campsite and here if you want to stay inside the park, you can drive straight to Apoka Campsite or Kakine Campsite.

Then in Murchison Falls National Park it is very possible to camp at Fort Murchison Camp at the northern part of the park, hippo pool campsite at the shores of the delta, then at the southern part of the park you can stay at Red Chill Campsite or at the top of the fall’s campsite among others.

4. How long can I spend on this holiday

If you are exploring the entire Uganda and you want to get exhausted of the tourism activities in Uganda you can plan for your holiday from 03 – 05 weeks and to suitably minimize costs on this holiday it is better you take rooftop tent jeep, camping gears and fridge.

5. Where to pick and drop the vehicle

We have made our services flexible and you can pick the car at any point of Uganda and what we do we deliver it at your point of convenience and then you meet all the logistics that facilitate the jeep to come where you are. Also, you can drop it anywhere in Uganda and then you meet the logistics of collecting it back to Kampala.
