I and my wife visited Uganda our family friends in December 2024 for the Christmas event, and through our family friends we booked a very affordable and reliable 4×4 rooftop tent car, since they are had used this company before everything was very well arranged. Upon arrival, in Uganda we were picked up by our friends to their home in Garuga along the shores of Lake Victoria.
The first 3 days we stayed with our friends at their home and they took us around Entebbe area and visiting the Entebbe botanical gardens and here you can really feel the real nature, visit to the Uganda wildlife education center and see animals in cages. Move around the beaches and enjoyed the fresh fried fish at the White Sand Beach and later we had our dinner and the Entebbe Protea Hotel by Marriott. Later, we drove back to Garuga home for the overnight stay excited waiting for our 4×4 jeeps to explore Uganda.
Today morning Moses and the colleague drops our 2 – 4×4 jeeps with the rooftop tents and I and my wife sat in one of the jeeps and then our friends too, took one of the jeeps and later we started our convey journey. This an amazing journey as I will tell you in the following paragraphs, we started with the visit to Jinja.
Always have read about this town and it is termed as Uganda’s tourism adventure destination. Driving from Garuga – Entebbe through Kampala it took us some time to exist the city as we wanted to first see the Buganda castle and its historical information and all it offers. The traffic flow was a bit tight and we left a bit late in the afternoon and we reached Jinja a bit exhausted and we had to raise up our rooftop tents to rest.
Later, in the evening we woke up and everyone took a refreshment from the nice set up shared bath rooms of the Nile River Explorer that is situated along the shores of River Nile. Today, though we had done enough shopping of what to prepare for dinner we decided to visit the camp restaurant and we found it so price friendly and we enjoyed the country’s beer “Nile” and image taking a beer that shares a name with the historical river that you are staying at its shores.
At finding the price so friendly we ordered for our breakfast the next day and after taking it again with this camp we booked for our interesting adventure the White-Water Rafting along the heavy running rapids of the River. It was so amazing to experience the rafting. How does it start? Staying here they provide you with the transfers to and from, in their coaster bus and also, they provide you with the heavy delicious Rolex rap up and fruits like pineapple, water melon and so on.
After this almost full day experience return to the camp and in the night, they will set-up campfire and if you have got beef, chicken or goats’ meat you can roast and enjoy with a bottle of Nile beer.
After experiencing Jinja and some of the few activities we did, we continued to Sipi Falls in the Mbale region with the undulating landscapes. The drive took us quite few hours’ drive and upon arrival we camped at the Moses’ campsite. Then in the evening with our local guide we took the coffee tour experience and this experience begins straight from the garden and then to the cup of taste the coffee.
Early in the morning we visited the Sipi Falls and it is so cool standing down these falls and the view is so amazing. After we embarked the jeeps and transfer to Pian Upe Reserve in Moroto. En-route we spotted so many wildlife, birds and the beautiful landscapes. With the Uganda Wildlife Authority campsite here with our rooftop tent jeeps we had a nice and interesting wilderness stay with the nice roaring from various animals.
Early in the morning with our safari ranger took a game drive looking for the African wildlife and much was spotted and the birds here are abundant. Landscapes here give you the nice lasting memories. After the game drive we continued to Moroto town and we had to retire at the Kara-tunga Camp and with this camp management we managed to arrange a visit to the Karamojong’s and we didn’t know this experience but since our friends had earlier move with Moses’ services had already introduced this experience to them on their previous trip.
We visited one of the villages and it was so amazing participating in the local dance performance with the locals. Thereafter, we drove back to the camp and retire in our rooftop tents and though the weather was a bit hot we found the night so cool. Since our interest was so much in culture, we gave this area so much time. After, this sector we drive towards Kotido and Kaboong and in here we visited to the largest village the “Nakapelimuro” and we had a nice time interacting with the community and after we drove to the Timu Eco camp for the overnight, though the place is regarded as hot section, staying at this camp in the range of hills it is so cool.
After here we visit the IK in the mountains and with the information nature walk you will spot dotted villages and enjoy the local food from the local restaurants and guess what’s cooked “It is the mixture of beans and chicken” and then served with boiled rice.
After exploring the Karamoja culture in detail we had to continue our journey to Kidepo Valley National Park and here we spent like 3 nights and all the time we were trying to look for various and interesting African wildlife that this park offers as we have several times watched it on national geographic channel. Here game drives are done in the morning and night.
Also, you can experience the culture and the community involvement in the conservation of the local communities along side the edge of the park. The Lorukul community partnering with the 4×4 Car Hire Uganda have tried their best to educate the communities nearby the exercise of controlling the elephants evading the crops and households of the area.
Visit Gulu town and it is so amazing we spent 2 nights here and at African Grass Roots Guest House, and from here we paid a visit to Aruu Falls and after we visited to Murchison Falls National Park and upon arrival, we took game drive along the Buligi track and heading to the hippo pool and after drove to Red Chill Rest Camp at the southern part of the park.
Today, we took a leisurely morning game drive looking for more wildlife and the early riser big5 and this experience took us 3 – 4 hours and after have lunch. Afternoon, boat ride towards the bottom of the falls and have a stunning view of the water falls flowing through the rock gorge. Evening visit to the top of the falls and here you will have a chance seeing the Uhuru falls before it joins the Nile at the point of the down fall.
We ended our journey here and then drove back to Kampala with en-route visit to the Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary for the foot rhino tracking and after drive back to Kampala – Entebbe.
