4×4 Rooftop Tent Jeep: Exploring North – Eastern Uganda

I and my wife we have spent two years planning for our beautiful road trip to Uganda and our interesting areas to go are a combination of the north – eastern loop and this include the Murchison Falls National Park, Aruu Falls, Kidepo Valley National Park, Karamoja route (Kaabong, Kotido and Moroto), Mount Elgon and then the Jinja a city of adventures.

At first, we wanted to go with private rented 4×4 jeep and then look for the very basic and clean campsites. But on start of preparing the holiday we found the 4×4 Car Hire Uganda and from the good pictures on their web page we found several 4×4 cars with rooftop tents and this changed our minds.

When we contacted the agency about the 4×4 car with rooftop tent and camping items we found their price so competitive and since we were going for quite long period of time (04 weeks) we secured more discount from Mike the travel experts of this agency.

We agreed on the 4×4 Land Cruiser TZ with rooftop tent automatic to take and what was so trustful is that these guys accept payments upon arrival after your inspection of the jeep and the whole the camping gears. Still on our process of the trip he advised us to apply for our visas online as nowadays they don’t offer visa on arrival, fill the mandatory healthy form such that you find your entry to Uganda so much easy.

Still again the travel expert was so helpful at securing for us the gorilla and chimps permits on the various dates that we wanted to see these great primates in the wild. At first, we feared to send this agency our money for the permits and when we contacted the government agency (Uganda Wildlife Authority) concerned the permits they advised us to do this transaction with the local registered company and the agency representative (Amos) shared to us the link where all companies are listed and we found the company inclusive and from here we entrusted them and sent them the fees to secure for us the gorilla permits.

After they secured our gorilla and chimps permits, they shared to us the scanned receipts and this gave us more trust in this company and before we traveled with them, we recommended our friends to 4×4 Car Hire Uganda and their trip was following ours. It was so interesting and amazing as we were concluding our trip in Jinja we met with Tinah and James heading towards the area we were coming from and we gave them the best highlights of the area.

Upon our arrival at the Entebbe Airport, we received our 4×4 jeep and started our trip to Murchison Falls National Park with en-route visit to the Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary for the foot rhino tracking and lunch. After with our leisure drive, continued to the top of the falls and later we camped at the Red Hill Hide Away wilderness.

Today early wake up and take dawn game drive looking for the early riser animals like Lions, Leopards, Hyenas and other wildlife like elephants, buffaloes, giraffes, water and bush antelopes among others. Lunch and after go for the amazing and educative boat ride along the River Nile towards the bottom of the falls viewing the water flowing through the rock gorge and after this experience we had to return again to the camp for the dinner and overnight stay.

With en-route game drive looking for more wildlife and birds continue to the Aruu falls and reaching here enjoyed the beauty of these falls and after we embarked the jeep and transferred to Kitgum and here we stayed at the local campsites offering local foods.

After breakfast, we checked our jeep if everything is fine and after finding everything perfect, we started the journey to Kidepo Valley National Park and upon arrival we check in at the Apoka campsite and prepared for our meals, we had bought local foods like Potatoes and Cassava and local chicken and it was so delicious. Even we embarked on an evening game drive and from the advice of our travel expert we picked the park ranger to escort us on the game drive and it was so amazing as we spotted 04 lions and 02 leopards and the big herd of buffaloes.

After being filled with the beautiful landscapes and the wildlife we embarked the jeep driving down eastern part through the Kaabong, Kotido and Moroto. While on the way en-route stop at the Nakapelimuro village one of the biggest local villages in East Africa. Stay at Kara-tunga Moroto and in the next night we arranged with the team of this camp for an overnight stay with our rooftop tent jeep in the village and we had an amazing night camp fire and goat roasting.

Thereafter, we continued with our journey to Mount Elgon and we used a dirty road to reach the Sipi falls in Kapichorwa and when you reach this place you completely forget that you from the hot weather, here it is so cool and the meandering road is rewarding with the scenic view. We stood at one marked point and we had clear view of the place and the falls it’s self it is so interesting.

Later we ended our trip by visiting Jinja where we experienced the white water rafting and visiting the source of the Nile. And since this is our last destination, we took our last night in the Nile River Explorer Camp and we enjoyed the complimentary water sliding experience and after we drove back to Entebbe to catch up our late-night flight back to Netherlands and if you interested in 4×4 one way car rental experience say from Uganda to Tanzania we are here to help you arrange such experiences following Lake Victoria.
