It was 2020 that we wanted to explore East Africa – Rwanda and Uganda on our 30 days, but unfortunately the Covid-19 Pandemic attacked the entire world and we couldn’t go on with our program since the whole world was put into the total lock-down as a way of curbing the Covid-19.
At first, we thought this could take a short period of time but as time went on, international flights started closing their routes globally and we had already bought our tickets which we had to keep until further notice.
Though we were in the lock-down we continued with our road trip research arrangements and myself the emphasis was put on East African best tourist’s places to go and my wife concentrated on the accommodation part and we all managed to get enough information about the countries we chose to visit.
4×4 Rooftop Tent Land Cruiser Prado TZ @90$ US and long term rental @80$ US per day
At first, we wanted to take only the 4×4 jeep and then stay in safari lodges and camps but looking at the entire budget it was a bit high. But we again thought of going camping with the down tents but again we saw it as tiresome on the trip and my wife interestingly found out the rooftop tent car services that 4×4 Car Hire Uganda offers to all travelers coming to experience road trip in Africa.
Later on, we first sent in our first email to this company requiring the 4×4 jeep with rooftop tent and since we were on a long-term rental across East Africa, Mike quickly replied back to our email with a well detailed answers with the prices and fairly we found this company so accommodative to our travel route and if I can say we rented uniformly this service at $120 US across Rwanda and Uganda per day inclusive the drop and return logistics of the jeep and please take it in mind that since this jeep is from Uganda after you rental holiday in Africa the jeep will have to return back home with the driver correcting it so in discuss mind about the logistics returning back the vehicle.
Partly in the East African region that is Rwanda, Uganda and then Kenya you can secure the East African Tourist Visa that costs $100 US and authorizes you to enter the 03 countries with one visa and then in Tanzania purchase an entry Visa which costs $50 US for other nationals but not the USA and Canada citizen that are charged $100 US.
Therefore, our route begun with Rwanda and here our highlights were Kigali city and its historical landmark, culture and the people. After we continued our journey to the Akagera National Park and here we were interested in the game drive and during our travel we found the wildlife population high as it was rainy season so the calving was high and as this park is a corridor between Tanzania and Rwanda some of the wildlife cross from Tanzania parks and reserves to this park.
After we traveled down Rwanda to Butare town visiting the Intore Dance showcasing the beautiful cultural performances of Rwanda and we spent whole day at this museum learning more about the interesting history of Rwanda. Later, we took our scenic drive along the shores of Lake Kivu via Kibuye to Gisenyi.
We had a very nice and beautiful overnight stay in our rooftop tent at Discover Guest House green gardens. Thereafter, next day we spent it exploring the Gisenyi town visiting the beautiful museums and historical places like the Dancing pots and we experienced the community-based tourism initiative projects and we loved the visit to the center.
Though we were not in position to do the amazing gorilla trekking experience in the Volcanoes National Park we stayed 2 nights in the Ruhengeri town and here we had visit to the Dian Fossey Museum experiencing the gorilla conservation work she did towards the rights of the mountain gorillas in the Virunga slopes. Visit to the Iby’Iwacu cultural Village and experience the Rwanda cultural performances from the once gorilla hunters and now the gorilla warriors.
After exploring Rwanda, we traveled to Uganda via Cyanika border but we had a nice en-route visit to the twin lakes “Burera and Ruhondo” and when you reach here you will get the very amazing catching view of the lake just at the foot slopes of the Volcanoes.
After in the evening we crossed to Kisoro town Uganda and we camped to Kisoro Travelers Rest Hotel which is an historical hotel in the area and formerly known as a home to Dian Fossey during her primatology research and advocating for the mountain gorillas in the mist.
Uganda being the Pearl of Africa, has much more to offer than Rwanda and as it is still an affordable to all travelers interested in gorilla trekking, we didn’t miss it doing it in the Mgahinga Gorilla National Park and we spotted the huge silver back heading the Nyakagezi gorilla family and the beautiful juveniles. After our gorilla trekking in the mist, we had nice relax at the camp and this area is cool and if you are traveling as a couple you will love your holiday.
After here our next destination was the Lake Bunyonyi and on our drive to this place it was so amazing with the beautiful undulating landscapes. Here our place of stay is the Lake Bunyonyi Overland where they have beautiful gardens suitable for our 4×4 rooftop tent car and overlooking the shores of the Lake. Then the next day we took leisurely and amazing boat cruise along the shores of Lake Bunyonyi visiting the beautiful dotted islands and communities.
In conclusion on the Uganda side after Lake Bunyonyi relaxing, we covered the Ishasha in Queen Elizabeth National Park, Mweya Peninsula going to the Kasenyi mating ground, Kyambura gorge and then later we went to Kibale Forest National Park where we took an extra amazing chimpanzee trekking with our permits that Moses booked for us at no extra cost.
Evening we took the Bigodi eco-friendly nature walk and then on our next day we discovered the not yet visited and less spoilt places like the crater lakes and the cultural places of the Toro region. After here we reached the Murchison, Kidepo, Elgon, Pian Upe and our last holiday destination was Jinja and here we in our 4 days we did a lot of adventures like White Rafting, Bungee Jumping, water sliding, tubing among others.
Therefore, for more information about this route and you want to take it take in mind it is of long duration travel and contact this company you will tailor it well depending on your holiday.
